Liquidnet expands US equities team with new hire

Simon Gilbert joins Liquidnet to focus on US equities liquidity for European members.

Liquidnet has hired an equities sales veteran to boost its European members sourcing institutional liquidity in US equities.

Simon Gilbert has been appointed sales director based in London and has over 10 years experience in US equity sales.

He joins from Sterne Agee where he was the director of US equities and has held similar positions at Macquarie and Piper Jaffray.

Mark Pumfrey, head of EMEA at Liquidnet, explained there is a real demand for US liquidity in the region and Gilbert will focus on developing this.

“[Gilbert’s] experience in building and running US equities desks in Europe will be a great addition to our global institutional trading network,” he said.

US equities are showing great promise, Liquidnet added, with Morningstar’s European fund flow data showing that US equities recorded €6.2 billion in inflows in November 2016, breaking previous figures in October 2014 by over a €1 billion.

Gilbert will report to head of sales, Tony Booth, and the trade coverage, sales, fixed income and execution and quantitative services teams to implement Liquidnet’s long-term sales strategies.
