Jefferies continues Asian expansion with securities finance hire

US investment bank Jefferies has appointed Sean Huang as head of securities finance trading in Asia, as part of a drive to expand the firm's global equities business.

US investment bank Jefferies has appointed Sean Huang as head of securities finance trading in Asia, as part of a drive to expand the firm's global equities business.

Jefferies is establishing an equity sales, trading and research platform in Asia with a focus on Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, India, Korea and Taiwan.

Huang is based in the firm's Hong Kong office and will be responsible for managing securities finance activities in Asia.

Before joining Jefferies, Huang worked for UBS, where he was a director and senior trader, equity finance. Previously, he was a senior trader, equity finance at Fortis Bank. He received a Masters in Econometrics from Erasmus University of Rotterdam.

“Building out our Asia securities finance business is part of our ongoing strategy to provide a full-service global equity product offering to our clients,” said Mike Alexander, CEO of Jefferies Asia.

The announcement follows the appointment of six new managing directors in Asia in April, as well as the hiring of Allan Heye as managing director in portfolio sales trading, based in London.

The firm's equities business now consists of more than 700 professionals globally, including 200 outside the US. Jefferies offers sales and trading services in a range of equity products, including cash equities, electronic trading, equity derivatives, exchange traded funds, convertibles, prime brokerage, securities finance and more than 215 equity research professionals globally covering over 1,100 companies.
