Former ITG chief re-emerges at Barclays

The ex-ITG chief has joined the British bank as head of strategy for markets pre-trade technology.

ITG’s former chief executive, Bob Gasser, has officially joined Barclays within the bank’s internal technology operations.

Gasser joined the British bank as head of strategy for markets pre-trade technology. According to a source with knowledge of the matter, the role is purely internal and Gasser will not carry out any client-facing responsibilities.

The equities veteran will be based in New York and will rejoin with the bank’s CEO, Jes Staley, whom he worked with during the 1990s.

Bob Gasser led agency broker ITG from 2006 until mid-2015 when the company became embroiled in a dark pool rule violation scandal with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Following his departure, Gasser sought $13 million in compensation, claiming the firm had ‘forced him out’ amid the dark pool probe.
