Deutsche Boerse has appointed derivatives market expert Ilan Gotsmam to an advisory role at Eurex, where he will report to the exchange’s chief executive Andreas Preuss.

Gotsmam helped set up G.H. Financials in London in the early 90s, before founding derivatives trading firm Matrix Capital Markets in 2003.

He is also the founder of Butterfly Investments, an exchange-traded interest rate derivative player in Europe.

His role at Eurex will see him consulting on a growth plan for contract volume and open interest and on product development. He will also advise on client acquisition, development of the pricing structure and expansion of its competitive position, as well as advising on further development of the liquidity pool and identifying external growth opportunities.

Eurex’s volumes have been steadily increasing on 2014’s activity this year, with August a prime example as trading rose 20% to an average of 5.8 million contracts per day.

The German exchange has launched a number of new products over the past year including FX options, swap futures and volatility products.
