Instinet appoints head of US equity content

Jeff Doherty will oversee research and sales after Instinet combined Nomura’s research business with its cash equities platform.

Instinet has appointed a head of US equity content following a migration of the equity research business from Nomura to Instinet in late 2016.

Jeff Doherty, formerly managing director and head of US equity research sales, will oversee both the research and sales distribution businesses as part of his new role.

Prior to joining Nomura in 2016 Doherty spent 15 years at Barclays and Lehman Brothers, working across institutional equity sales, most recently as head of middle markets sales.

Mark Govoni, president of Instinet, commented that following the integration of the equity research business, “the best way to meet client demand for high quality research is to deliver sector-focused product via Instinet's boutique model”.

Instinet integrated the US equity research and research sales from Nomura into its cash equities platform, forming a multi-sector boutique research service.

“Under [Doherty’s] leadership, we will further advance this model by closely aligning our high quality research analysts with our dedicated sales and specialist teams,” Govoni added.

“Collaboration between content and sales is more critical than ever as the buy side adjusts to unbundling and the impact of regulation.”
