ICE reshuffles leadership as European futures president retires

ICE names new presidents of ICE Futures Europe, ICE Clear Europe and ICE Benchmark Administration businesses.

ICE has made several new senior leadership appointments, following the announced retirements of the heads of its European exchange and clearing house.

Stuart Williams will take over as president of ICE Futures Europe from October this year following industry veteran David Peniket’s retirement.

Peniket held various roles at ICE including president and chief operating officer (COO) at ICE Futures Europe, having first joined the exchange group in 1999.

Williams has been COO of ICE Futures Europe since July last year, and prior to that was director of corporate development for the exchange.

In addition the Atlanta-based exchange group’s European clearing house, ICE Clear Europe, will now be led by Finbarr Hutcheson, following Paul Swann’s decision to retire. Hutcheson is currently the president of ICE Benchmark Administration, which oversees the London Interbank Offered Rate (LIBOR).

Timothy Bowler will succeed Hutcheson as president of ICE Benchmark Administration, joining from Goldman Sachs where he is currently managing director of the financial institutions group.

Jeff Sprecher, chief executive officer at ICE, explained the new appointments will enable the exchange operator to continue growing and better serve its client base.

“Williams brings strong experience in derivatives and operations to lead our largest exchange and Europe’s leading energy and interest rate markets.

“Bowler brings a wealth of experience in financial markets and policy to build on ICE Benchmark Administration’s strong foundation of modernised, regulated benchmarks,” Sprecher said.
