Aegis Software has released its newest white paper, ‘Benchmarking Performance of Execution Management Systems (EMS)’. Aimed at providing insights into factors that affect performance, the paper focuses on the issues of throughput and latency in today’s millisecond-sensitive trading environment. The paper is available by request at the company's website.
The paper explores several trade-offs that can positively and negatively impact performance, including algorithm development, deployment architecture, API interface, configuration considerations, application mix, message storage/retrieval, hardware, data access, programming languages and recovery/backup procedures.
"The raison d'etre of the EMS marketplace is to provide high performance, flexible market access that is largely unavailable from the slower, more cumbersome OMS's", says Norm Friedman, vice president of Aegis Software. "Therefore, traders shopping for an EMS system need to thoroughly understand performance considerations and should be able to comprehend how the system will work under-the-covers. Most importantly, they must demand hard, verifiable performance statistics that are repeatable in their own environment. The White Paper educates prospective buyers on what to ask and what to look for."
