BATS Options, the US equity options exchange owned by BATS Global Markets, has completed the rollout of securities on its platform. The platform, which launched in February, now offers options trading in over 2,100 underlying cash equity securities.
“The past few weeks have seen a smooth technological implementation and a steady increase in users and volume,” said Jeromee Johnson, head of BATS Options and vice president, market development, BATS Exchange. The platform has over 50 members to date.
BATS Options successfully filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the US securities regulator, to eliminate the need to have at least one registered market maker per options series, before it can be opened for trading. The new rule will come into force on 28 May.
“With the elimination of this rule we’re taking steps to give investors and traders even greater flexibility and maximum access to the options we have listed. This opens trading on BATS Options to a much broader range of trading and hedging objectives,” added Johnson.
