Trading venue operator BATS Global Markets has reported volume numbers for May 2011, including 3.9% matched market share for BATS Options, the US derivatives venue launched just over a year ago.

Initiated in February 2010, BATS Options completed the full rollout of securities on its platform in May 2010, with options available in 2,100 underlying cash equity securities.

According to latest monthly figures, BATS Options reported an average daily matched volume of 589,425 contracts in May. The venue also reported a one-day record matched volume of 830,580 contracts on 23 May 2011.

BATS also reported volume figures for its two stock exchanges in the US, the BATS BZX and BYX Exchange, as well as BATS Europe, a multilateral trading facility (MTF). The company's equity businesses in the US and Europe reported market share of 10.8% and 5.6% respectively in May 2011.

BATS Europe recently revealed the terms of its proposed takeover for pan-European MTF Chi-X Europe. Chi-X Europe currently has 17.6% European market share, according to data provided by Thomson Reuters.
