Blockchain trading platform technology provider raises $15 million

AlphaPoint provides blockchain technology to help clients launch trading platforms and tokenise assets.

A New York-based capital markets trading platform blockchain technology provider has raised $15 million in a Series A funding round.

AlphaPoint provides exchange and asset digitisation technology to clients globally, including major exchange operators like CME Group and private equity firm Muirfield Investment Partners, to launch trading platforms and digitise assets.

The FinTech firm covers various markets from commodities to real estate, cryptocurrencies and securitised token offerings.

AlphaPoint was founded in 2013 and is led by a team of industry veterans across financial technology, exchange technology and securitisation.

The team’s background in capital markets combines experience from institutions like Bloomberg, Barclays, BlackRock, Deutsche Bank, Morgan Stanley, Nasdaq, NYSE and UBS.

The funding, which was raised from Galaxy Digital Ventures, will be used to accelerate AlphaPoint’s expansion and global growth, the company explained.

“We are delighted to have Galaxy Digital Ventures as a strategic investor who shares our vision to unlock the value of illiquid assets for a wider audience of investors and traders,” said Salil Donde, chief executive at AlphaPoint and former executive vice president for global information services at Nasdaq.

As part of the deal, Galaxy Digital Venture’s managing director Greg Wasserman will join the board of directors at AlphaPoint.

“The market opportunity for digitising illiquid assets is tremendous,” Wasserman added. “Consumers are demanding increased access, transparency and trust. Businesses are seeking increased liquidity with reduced fraud, risk and cost.

“Executing on this market opportunity requires proven best-in-class technology alongside seasoned management teams with substantial experience providing new technology to a variety of financial institutions.”
