BTIG, an institutional broker-dealer and fund services company, has added two new members to its pan-European sales and trading team. The latest hires are part of the firm’s ambitions to build up its London presence.

Robert Smith will join BTIG as managing director for pan-European sales trading. Smith joins after 10 years at Deutsche Bank where he was most recently head of pan-European sales trading. He has also held sales trading positions at HSBC and Banque Nationale de Paris.

James West joins BTIG’s European sales trading team as director, joining from US-based broker Knight Capital. He has also worked at Citigroup and State Street.

“Both Robert and James bring valuable experience to our team as we expand our pan-European capabilities,” said Gary Hayes, CEO of BTIG in Europe, in a statement. “We are committed to further building our presence in the region and to hiring experienced professionals to expand our service and product offerings.”

In the past year, BTIG has opened a new office in Singapore and hired staff for its Hong Kong and Australian offices. It has also launched a fixed income group.

“Our growth strategy over the last year has enabled us to not only serve our existing clients, but to also significantly expand our base of institutional accounts,” added Hayes.
