Bursa Malaysia has appointed ex-Macquarie equities head Uday Jayaram as its new global head of securities markets.

Jayaram will take responsibility for developing the exchange's equities business strategy, including product innovation and developing the exchange's position as an investment and listing destination of choice.

As well as Australian investment banking group Macquarie Capital Securities, where he built the firm's Malaysian broking presence, Jayaram has also held positions at Dutch bank ING Barings, asset manager Deutsche Morgan Grenfell, now Deutsche Asset Management, and accountants Ernst and Young in London.

Jayaram also currently holds the position of chairman of the FTSE-Bursa Malaysia Index advisory committee.
