Citi granted Malaysian exchange membership

The Malaysian subsidiary of investment bank Citi has been approved to start trading equities on the domestic Malaysian exchange Bursa Malaysia from 13 September 2010.

From that date, Citigroup Global Markets Malaysia will be registered as a participating organisation, authorised depository agent and trading clearing participant of the exchange.

Citigroup Global Markets Malaysia will become the 35th licensed trading participant on Bursa Malaysia. According to its own figures, foreign institutional investors accounted for 27.9% of equity trading by value in August 2010. US$9.16 billion worth of Malaysian equities were traded in August 2010 according to Thomson Reuters' Equity Market Share Reporter.
