Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEx) has announced the successful launch of a centralised access point through which exchange participants can connect their order management systems to its securities trading system.

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEx) has announced the successful launch of a centralised access point through which exchange participants can connect their order management systems to its securities trading system.

The Orion Central Gateway (OCG) will provide a more cost-efficient architecture, according to HKEx, and will introduce new services including a FIX interface and drop copy. Latency will also be reduced and the overall resilience of the exchange infrastructure increased.

Currently 54 members have established trading connection to the OCG with more due to be added soon.

"The successful launch of the OCG was another big step for our Orion programme and we appreciate the preparation work of market participants that were involved in the rollout," said HKEx’s CEO, Charles Li.

"We will continue to invest in technology for our markets to ensure they remain attractive."

In April, HKEx announced the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect, a new mechanism to facilitate equity flows between Hong Kong and the mainland.
