Ian M. Smith has started in his new role at Goldman Sachs in Hong Kong, as head of electronic trading for the Asia Pacific region.
An internal memo obtained from Goldman Sachs confirms that he has joined the firm as managing director.
According to Canute Dalmasse, the head of execution services for Goldman Sachs in Asia Pacific, the firm has tripled the number of clients on its algorithmic customisation platform and added access to three new markets during the past year.
We reported in July 2013 that Ian Smith had left his former position in Citi, Hong Kong, where he was replaced by Ben Valentine. At that time he was surmised to be probably heading in the direction of Goldman Sachs. Before Citi, he had worked at Credit Suisse in their electronic trading unit.
