Investment management consultancy Investit has appointed Alistair Byrne as a principal of its investment practice.

He will be involved in delivering the firm’s investment process consulting as well as strengthening its product development services to help asset managers meet today’s challenging environment.

Before joining Investit, Byrne ran his own financial services consultancy business as well as being a senior lecturer in finance at the University of Edinburgh and a visiting fellow of the Pensions Institute at Cass Business School, London. He began his investment management career in 1993 at Aegon Asset Management, where he spent 10 years in various roles including investment strategist and head of equity research.

“Investit is growing internationally and we welcome the addition of Alistair to our investment practice,” said Peter Ellis, Investit’s managing director, in a statement. “Over the last seven years we have run over 80 investment process projects across the asset class spectrum. Alistair’s wide experience will help us continue to support our clients in investment process development and communication. We also look forward to his input into our new product development services, as fund managers adapt their product offerings to the new financial market environment.”

“We are seeing increased demand for advice on front-office investment issues,” added Byrne. “One area I expect to see further growth is defined contribution (DC) pension funds. Fund managers are reviewing their product ranges in the light of the expected growth in the DC market. We want to help our clients capture a greater share of these DC assets.”
