KNG Securities appoints former VTB Capital fixed income head as new emerging market sales lead

Incoming hire joins from VTB Capital, where he spent the last 10 years; previously served at Morgan Stanley and Santander Corporate and Investment Banking.

Fixed income investment banking boutique KNG Securities has appointed Fernando Ortega as its new head of emerging market sales.

He joins KNG Securities from VTB Capital, where he served as global head of fixed income sales over the last 10 years. Prior to that, Ortega worked at Morgan Stanley as head of institutional and onshore sales.

Elsewhere in his career, Ortega served as European head of emerging market sales at Santander Corporate and Investment Banking.

“Fernando is bringing a great deal of senior-level experience in fixed income sales as well as a unique universe of connections within the emerging market debt community,” said Andrea Podesta, managing partner at KNG Securities.

Ortega’s appointment follows a string of recent hires from KNG Securities as part of its strategy of expanding in emerging markets across all areas of its business.

Namely, KNG appointed Turkish fixed income expert Cagri Kutman, CIS specialist Ior Nartov and LATAM veteran Christian Laloe, which further increased KNG’s expertise in emerging markets.

Elsewhere, former Barclays capital director, Halila Mazin, was added to KNG’s credit team, alongside former Goldman Sach analyst Andrew Lee, who joined the bank’s distressed credit team.

“I am very excited to take on a leading role in driving KNG’s growth within the emerging market universe,” said Ortega. “KNG Securities have ambitious plans to grow their EM business and I am looking forward to deploying my expertise executing this strategy to assist our clients navigate volatile markets.”
