Nomura Securities International, the US brokerage division of Japanese investment bank Nomura, has released a new set of US algorithmic trading strategies as it continues to expand its global offering.

The broker will initially offer eight core strategies – VWAP, TWAP, WithVolume, IS, Target Close, On Close, Target Open and On Open – in the US as part of its global ModelEx suite of electronic trading tools. Additional strategies are under development and testing.

“We have been building out the equity division in the Americas during 2009 by hiring teams of proven professionals that will add value to our clients on a global basis. The launch of the algorithmic trading strategies represents another positive step for our firm,” said Ciaran O’Kelly, managing director and head of equities, Americas, in a statement.

According to Nomura, the new US strategies will complement its European and Asian algo offerings and are built using proprietary risk analysis, transaction cost modelling and alpha signals. Clients can access the strategies using a range of third party order and execution management systems.

Nomura purchased the Asian and European assets of failed investment bank Lehman Brothers shortly after its collapse in September 2008. Since then, it has used the acquisition to ramp up equity execution capabilities in both regions.
