Nomura names senior Asian equity trading heads

Nomura, a Japan-based investment bank, has made a series of senior appointments in its Asia Pacific equities business.

Jean El Khoury has been appointed as head of equity trading, Asia ex-Japan; Christopher Carter joins Nomura as head of equity derivatives Japan; Shinichiro Eguchi has been appointed head of execution services trading Japan; Nick Heather has been appointed head of execution services trading, Asia ex-Japan; and Jenny Chiam has been appointed as head of equities, Southeast Asia.

El Khoury is responsible for the management of trading and risk across all equity products, Asia ex-Japan. He reports to Paul Dolan and John Adair, joint heads of equities, Asia Pacific, and Christian Dalban, global head of equity trading.

Additionally, El Khoury will have pan-regional responsibilities as head of trading for equity derivatives and convertibles, Asia Pacific. Having joined Nomura in January 2011 as head of equity derivatives trading, Asia Pacific, El Khoury has more than 20 years of industry experience in Europe, the US and Asia.

Carter will oversee sales, trading and structuring for equity derivatives products in Japan, reporting to Norikazu Akedo, head of equities, Japan. Carter joins Nomura as a managing director from emerging markets-focused investment bank Renaissance Capital, where he was global head of equity derivatives. Previously, he was with Credit Suisse First Boston for nine years across its Tokyo, Hong Kong and London offices, most recently as global head of equity derivatives.

Eguchi has been appointed head of execution services trading, Japan, in addition to his current role as head of cash trading, Japan. He will now have oversight of the cash, international equity, programs and delta one trading businesses and will also report to Akedo.

As head of execution services trading Asia ex-Japan, Heather will report to El Khoury. Heather joined Nomura in June 1997 in EMEA, before transferring to Tokyo and more recently Hong Kong. He will retain responsibility for his current role as head of program trading, Asia Pacific, in addition to his new role.

Meanwhile, Chiam will report to Dolan and Adair. Chiam joined Nomura in April 2007 and was named head of equities sales, Singapore in 2008. Prior to joining Nomura, she worked for Credit Suisse and has specialised in Asian equities in Australia, New York and Singapore for over 25 years.

A Nomura spokesperson confirmed that Robert Laible is currently head of Asia ex-Japan equity sales trading, head of Asia Pacific program trading sales, and co-head of global electronic sales.

Nomura appointed Prabhat Awasth as head of equities for India in July 2011. The firm has also been building out its Americas equities division, with a series of hires since the launch of a new equities trading floor in New York in October 2010.
