Progress Software, a supplier of application infrastructure software used to develop, deploy, integrate and manage business applications, announced on Tuesday the availability of the Progress Sonic Deployment Manager (SDM). Sonic products enable the integration and flexible re-use of business applications within a large, physically distributed service-oriented architecture (SOA). SDM extends the distributed capabilities of the Sonic products to help enterprises streamline incremental development and rollout of large-scale SOA deployments, while keeping costs down, says the firm.

"As organisations become more sophisticated in their SOA deployments, tools like the SDM are necessary to reduce the time and cost associated with managing those deployments," explains Brad Shimmin, principal analyst, application infrastructures, current analysis, Progress Software.

Progress says that SDM allows enterprises to model all aspects of a Sonic product deployment, independent of physical deployment details, and to test production environments prior to roll-out.

"Many of our customers, and especially those that have a headquarters in one location but a physical presence in several locations, use SDM for what they call 'hands-off deployments,'" explains David White, Sonic Product marketing manager, Progress Software. "SDM is critical for enterprises that succeeded at the SOA project level and are ready to move their SOA project enterprise-wide," he adds.
