The Singapore Exchange (SGX) has launched ultra-low latency access to its securities and derivatives platforms.

The move makes SGX the fastest platform in Asia and the first to offer sub-millisecond access to its trading engines. It will enable traders from outside Singapore to access trading engines four times faster than the current rate.

SGX Proximity Hosting was established in conjunction with telecoms provider SingTel and will be housed at SingTel’s EXPAN data centres.

SGX have said that the service was introduced in response to demand from a growing segment of algorithmic and proprietary traders, who are beginning to establish a strong presence in Asia.

“For the first time in Asia, trading at the speed of light has become a reality,” said Bill Chang, vice president for business, SingTel. “The solution will offer overseas financial institutions superior access to markets in Asia and will attract more trading firms to Singapore and further strengthen our position as a major financial hub.”
