Swiss bourse sets date for platform switch

SIX Swiss Exchange has confirmed it will migrate to a new Nasdaq OMX-supplied engine on 23 April.

The Zurich-based bourse will be the first to use the new Nasdaq OMX platform, which combines the benefits of INET and X-stream, the technology platform acquired as part of Nasdaq’s takeover of Nordic exchange group OMX in 2007. The upgrade will offer significant latency and throughput advantages for members across equities and derivatives offered by SIX.

SIX Swiss Exchange’s SWXess equity trading platform is already based on X-stream technology.

Member testing for the new platform has been available since 6 February.

The exchange will also switch to data centre provider Equinix’s Zurich facility to provide co-location and proximity hosting services, replacing its existing proprietary site, also based in Zurich. SIX said the Equinix data centre would offer speeds of below 100 microseconds, which would reduce risks and enable quicker market data dissemination.
