Thailand-based brokerage Phatra Securities has chosen an investment management system (IMS) from Charles River Development, the Boston-based front- and middle-office trading solutions provider.

The firm has selected the IMS to underpin the launch of a new private fund department in Bangkok. The IMS will help Phatra scale its private funds department and manage additional asset classes and multi-currency portfolios in the future.

Phantra offers a range of services to institutional and high-net worth clients, including securities and derivatives brokerage, securities and derivatives dealing, underwriting, investment advisory and securities lending.

As the Thai market is currently evolving at a rapid pace, investment managers are diversifying their portfolios into international markets. With this brings the need for technology to support such diversification. Growth in the use of FIX has been one of the more noticeable changes in technology in Thailand recently, and Charles River has been adding Thai brokers to its FIX network, as well as working with Thai buy-side clients to assist them in embracing electronic trading, particularly as an enabling tool for broker algorithms and DMA, which is gaining popularity in the region.

“We chose Charles River IMS because of its powerful portfolio management solutions, global capabilities and readiness to support specific Thai requirements,” said Yuthapol Laplamool, head of the private fund department at Phatra. “A key differentiator was the company’s ability to provide us with advice on both local and global best practices for the configuration of our workflows.”

The IMS provides real-time portfolio management, order and execution management, compliance, and performance measurement, attribution and risk across domestic fixed income, money market and equity instruments.

“Phatra wanted a solution that could be quickly implemented and would automate its domestic and international investments across its entire operations,” said a spokesperson for Charles River. “The ability for Phatra to demonstrate to its clients that it has the necessary investment technology, processes, and – most importantly – compliance tools in place to manage their money was an important factor in their selection.”
