Data vendor and information services provider Thomson Reuters has named Robert Hegarty as the new global head of market structure for its Enterprise division.

Hegarty's responsibilities will include expanding Elektron, the firm's global trading and data distribution network that was launched in April 2010, by developing relationships with market participants. He will also focus on the impact of regulation on global markets and how this could affect the delivery of new products.

Hegarty will report to David Kelly, chief technology officer of Thomson Reuters' Enterprise unit.

Prior to joining Thomson Reuters, Hegarty worked at US post-trade utility the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation, where he was responsible for the firm's strategy, planning and marketing capabilities.

He has also held a position at consultancy TowerGroup as managing director of securities, investments and insurance.

“Rob's understanding of the global financial markets and rapidly changing regulatory environment will further bolster the growth of Elektron, which provides our customers with the fastest time to market and immediate scale,” said Kelly.

“Elektron is well-positioned to lead the way in supplying financial institutions with the content and tools they need to respond swiftly to market changes,” added Hegarty.
