SIX Swiss exchange and Deutsche Boerse both revealed declines in trading activity for May this year compared to the same month last year.
SIX witnessed a particularly difficult month, with overall turnover down 28% compared to the month prior, totalling CHF 90.95 billion.
Deutsche Boerse’s order book turnover across asset classes decreased 17% in May this year compared to last year, totalling €103.8 billion.
Of the €103.8 billion, €96.1 billion came from Deutsche Boerse’s Xetra platform, where overall turnover declined 18% in May this year compared to last year.
SIX Swiss exchange reported a 9% decrease in total number of trades, with bonds (non-CHF) suffering a significant 31% drop in trading volume in May compared to April this year.
The total number of trades for Bonds CHF at SIX exchange declined 4% last month but improved in May, up 8%, though overall trade volumes since the beginning of the year were down 25% compared to the same period last year.
Equities turnover at SIX in May declined 34% totalling CHF 70,292 million.
Deutsche Boerse’s Eurex exchange saw an 11% decline in overall contracts traded in May this year compared to the same month last year.
