Matthew McLoughlin, head of trading, Liontrust Asset Management

Matthew McLoughlin returns in our Rising Stars list following his promotion at Liontrust Asset Management to head of trading in September.

McLoughlin joined Liontrust in 2015 as a senior trader after one year at Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM) as a global equity trader. Prior to that he spent more than five and half years as a senior trader at RAB Capital.

German-speaker McLoughlin graduated from the University of Surrey in 2004 with a BSc in Economics, before joining AIG Global Investment Group as an assistant portfolio manager where he attained his Investment Management Certificate.

Speaking about being listed for the second year, McLoughlin said: “The buy-side now has more control and responsibility than ever before over the execution venues they access and the liquidity they interact with.  Coupled with the heightened scrutiny and pressure that we find ourselves under as an industry, I believe it is important to give recognition to those who work hard to build and develop its reputation.”

Toby Hucker, head of broker desk, Miton Group

Toby Hucker joined Miton Group in January 2014 to head up its broker desk following the company’s acquisition of PSigma Asset Management the year prior.

Hucker began his career at PSigma in 2007 in a junior role supporting the sales team. He shadowed the managing director and head of sales at the time from the launch of the business. Hucker says the role provided him with a broad appreciation of the workings of an asset manager, both internally and working with outsourced partners of the firm.

After five years, Hucker found himself as head of marketing for the company, redesigning the website, building relationships with trade and national journalists and dealing with regulatory changes to the business practices.

When Miton Group acquired PSigma Asset Management, Hucker was appointed head of the broker desk, working closely with fund managers and the sales and marketing teams. He is now responsible for the day-to-day servicing of some of the largest discretionary wealth mangers and IFA on the desk.

Hucker’s journey from supporting the sales team in 2007 to heading up the broker desk at Miton Group following its acquisition made him a standout candidate for The TRADE’s Rising stars.

In his spare time, Hucker enjoys motorsports, playing football, ten-pin bowling and restoring cars. He also holds a license to fly private planes!

Lloyd Satchwell, portfolio and algorithmic trading, Sanford Bernstein

Lloyd Satchwell has been with Sanford Bernstein for just under a year and is part of the firm’s portfolio and algorithmic trading team.

In July 2010, he joined Credit Suisse to develop products for the investment bank’s algorithmic trading business. Specifically, he worked on Advanced Execution Services (AES) that helps institutions and hedge funds reduce market impact, improve portfolio performance versus benchmarks and add consistency to their trading processes. The AES consists of a suite trading tools, analytics and strategies.

Just after he left Credit Suisse, Satchwell became a director at AlgoClarity. Algo Clarity builds tools and solutions that illuminate the trading process and help firms achieve best execution. He remains a director there.

Satchwell completed work experience at Rowan Darlington, a stockbroking company based in Bristol, back in 2004. He holds a Bsc degree in computer science and management from Kings College in London.

Claire Chavantré, fixed income trader, Vanguard

Claire Chavantre has worked in the fixed income arena her entire career. She gained her first experience in the front office when she joined Societe Generale Private Banking (SGPB) in Luxembourg in 2009, assisting fixed income dealers and traders.

In 2011, she became a fixed income, equities and futures trader for the bank, attaining valuable knowledge in trading government bonds, European, US and Asian stocks, as well as commodities futures, index futures and listed US options.

Soon after, Chavantre moved to the buy-side joining Vanguard in London in July 2012 where she serves as a fixed income trader to date.

Chavantre graduated from Ecole de Commerce Europeenne in Bordeaux, and is registered as a CFA Level II candidate.

As well as being a fluent speaker in French and English, she is also a speaker in Spanish and Italian.
