Lee Hodgkinson is to be made head of NYSE Arca, the multilateral trading facility (MTF) run by exchanges group NYSE Euronext, a spokesman has confirmed.

As of 6 September 2010, he will replace Virginie Saade, who is leaving her post to join alternative trading system Getco Execution Services in Europe as head of sales. Hodgkinson is still CEO of SmartPool the non-displayed MTF run by NYSE Euronext, a position he has held since 1 May 2009.

Hodgkinson has already seen his responsibilities increase since being appointed boss of the dark pool. He was appointed head of European sales and relationships for NYSE Euronext in May 2010.

Hodgkinson was also made a non-executive director of SecFinex in June 2010. SecFinex is a stock lending platform majority owned by NYSE Euronext.

Prior to joining SmartPool, he held the position of CEO at SWX Europe, the Swiss stock exchange's pan-European trading platform for Swiss equities. The platform was closed in April 2009 following a strategic decision by the exchange to centralise its business.
