Russian broker BCS has appointed Gareth Johnson as senior trader to its London office.

Johnson will support the start-up of the equity trading arm of the international business. He returns to the UK after living in Russia for seven years, where he was most recently senior equity trader at Troika Dialog.

Johnson’s other roles have included head of equity trading positions at both Alfa Bank and Uralsib Capital.

BCS, which trades equities and derivatives on the Russian exchange, said the appointment reflects the growth of its UK business, after receiving UK regulatory approval in June.

The firm has also promoted Tim Bevan as executive director of the board of BCS Prime Brokerage Ltd, effective 13 November. He was previously head of international prime sales.

“Since our UK operations were granted regulatory approval by the Financial Conduct Authority we have been gradually building our team,” Joseph Dayan, Executive Director and Head of Markets of BCS Prime Brokerage, said. “We are delighted that Gareth has joined especially given his experience in both European and Russian markets.”
