BlackRock names new head of European credit trading

Individual has been with BlackRock for just over two years; has previously served at Banco Santander, StormHarbour Securities, UBS, Elgin Capital, and Goldman Sachs.

BlackRock has promoted from within for its new head of European credit trading, according to an update on social media.

Dean Catton has been selected to take the helm for the asset manager’s European credit business after spending the last two years as its head of European leveraged finance trading for its alternatives business.

Catton joined BlackRock in 2021 from Banco Santander where he had been a credit trader for four and a half years.

Previously in his career, he spent several years in credit trading roles at StormHarbour Securities, UBS and Elgin Capital. He also spent several years at Goldman Sachs in a risk management and product control role.

The asset management heavyweight has made several senior trading appointments in the last year after it also promoted former EMEA head of rates trading Robert Mitchelson to become head of fixed income and FX trading for the region.
