Global broker Bank of America Merrill Lynch has poached a director from agency broker and trading technology firm ITG to head its Asia-Pacific electronic trading sales team.

According to an internal memo seen by theTRADEnews.com, Gabriel Butler, most recently director of sales and trading, Asia-Pacific, ITG, has joined BofA Merrill Lynch as director and head of Asia-Pacific electronic trading sales. Butler will report jointly to Mark Wheatley, head of Asia-Pacific electronic trading and Andy Maynard, head of Asia-Pacific equity flow sales.

In his new role, Butler will be responsible for institutional clients trading Asian stocks electronically, and for US investors that trade in Asia overnight.

According to the memo, the appointment is part of BofA Merrill Lynch’s strategy to combine all its electronic trading products onto one platform, an initiative that Butler will play a key role in achieving.
