Knight Capital Group, a US-based agency brokerage, has boosted its European sales team with the hire of a former NYSE Euronext director.

Didier Bankole takes up the role of vice president of sales for Knight’s electronic trading group in Europe and will focus on leading the sales effort for Knight Link, the broker’s internal crossing engine, across continental Europe.

Knight Link was launched in November 2009 and mixes both retail and institutional trading flow in over 700 European equities. It is regulated under MiFID as a systematic internaliser.

Prior to joining Knight, Bankole was head of global account management at exchange group NYSE Euronext. In addition to this role, Bankole was also market structure manager for NYSE Arca Europe, the group’s displayed multilateral trading facility, which was launched last March.

“Knight Link has an established footprint in the UK both in the institutional and the retail space, and we believe investors across Europe can also benefit from its liquidity and quality executions,” Kee-Meng Tan, managing director and head of Knight’s electronic trading group in Europe. “Didier brings considerable experience to our expansion efforts on the continent where we look to raise our profile among broker-dealers and institutions and further highlight our market-making ability.”
