Institutional block crossing platform Liquidnet has hired Adam Sussman, former director of research for research consultancy TABB Group as head of market structure and liquidity partnerships.

Since joining TABB in 2004, Sussman has established himself as expert in US market structure issues, with a focus on regulatory reform. At Liquidnet he will advise buy-side customers on market structure issues, technology and industry trends.

Sussman’s research at TABB has focused on equity market structure issues including off-exchange trading and low-latency activity. In 2009, he testified before the US Senate on high-frequency trading, dark pools and naked access.

Commenting on the hire, John Kelly, COO for Liquidnet, said Sussman would empower the firm’s buy-side member base to find alpha in the modern, complex US equity market.

“His knowledge, industry relationships and insights on changing market dynamics will further strengthen our efforts in building out our offering to help our members continue to trade blocks and drive institutional investment performance,” Kelly said.

Prior to joining TABB, Sussman was a senior product managers responsible for order management systems, routing and trading tools for the equities and options market at Ameritrade. He has a BA in philosophy and comparative literature from the University of Rhode Island.

In a statement, Sussman said he was eager to help the buy-side find block liquidity as asset managers encounter increasing difficulties trading in size due to market structure changes experienced in recent years.
