Liquidnet, a buy-side-only crossing network, has promoted John Barker, managing director of its European unit, to the newly-created position of head of international operations.
In his new role, Barker will take charge of all Liquidnet’s operations outside the US. The heads of Liquidnet’s regional divisions in Asia-Pacific and Canada will report to Barker, who will in turn report to Liquidnet founder and CEO Seth Merrin. Barker will also retain his role in Europe.
Before joining Liquidnet in 2001, Barker was head of equity operations at the London division of Tokyo-Mitsubishi International. He has also held positions at Deutsche Bank and agency brokerage Instinet.
Liquidnet reported a record £14.4 billion in total principal traded in EMEA in Q3 this year, a 54% year-on-year increase. In Asia-Pacific, principal traded has increased 52%, compared to last quarter, to $3 billion in Q3.
