PLUS Markets Group announced yesterday that 67,482 orders were traded on the PLUS platform in April, representing a total volume of 769.77 million shares valued at £398.39 million. There were 19 trading days last month, due to the impact of the UK Easter break.

Business development director Cyril Theret says, "Our trading activity is displaying good, steady performance. This is consistent with our plans to develop PLUS as the ideal venue to realise best execution opportunities in anticipation of MiFID."

Recently, PLUS announced it had entered into an agreement with OMX, whereby OMX will supply PLUS with new trading and market surveillance technologies.

Last year, over half a million trades, worth a total of nearly £3 billion, representing over 5.75 billion shares, took place on PLUS, establishing the success of the market since launch in December 2005. Currently, there are over 850 securities trading on the PLUS market. The combined market capitalisation of the PLUS market now exceeds £155 billion.
