R.J. O’Brien hires LME sales head to bolster clearing and execution business

Elena Patimova joins R.J. O’Brien from the London Metal Exchange where she was head of financial markets sales.

R.J. O’Brien has poached the London Metal Exchange’s (LME) head of financial markets sales to grow its electronic sales, clearing and voice execution business.

Elena Patimova has been tasked with raising the profile of the futures broker’s execution and clearing business across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

She first joined LME in 2015 as head of commodity buy-side sales and has previously worked at NYSE Liffe and global proprietary trading firm OTSC as a business development manager.

Patimova will report to chief customer officer for EMEA at R.J. O’Brien, Adam Solomons, who described her as being driven, dynamic and determined.

“She has an impressive track record of accomplishments, along with an extensive knowledge of what customers want and need through her experience at London’s futures exchanges, as well as on the client side,” said Solomons.

Prior to her work with exchange operators, Patimova built out her expertise in Russian and emerging markets, including Poland, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, Malaysia, South Africa, Turkey and China.

Between 2007 and 2009 she worked as an analyst and a sales and marketing manager for the Russian & Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Markets for GFMS, which is now part of Thomson Reuters.

Patimova said that taking on the new role at R.J. O’Brien will provide her with the opportunity to reinforce client relationships and apply them to clearing and execution side of the market.

“At the same time, I can participate in the further development of a successful and long-standing brokerage and clearing business at R.J. O’Brien,” she added.

“This gives me the opportunity to cover all derivative asset classes and many different types of financial clients based in the EMEA region, using the skill set I have gained from my previous roles in the marketplace.”
