Equities clearing expert Scott Riley has joined Morgan Stanley in London as executive director, leading the firm’s equities clearing initiative, theTRADEnews.com has learned.

Morgan Stanley confirmed Riley’s appointment today, but did not issue a statement or provide further details.

It is understood that Riley will lead a team to design Morgan Stanley’s clearing operations to fit alongside the firm’s electronic trading business, reporting to Kevin Twitchen, global head of product, Morgan Stanley Electronic Trading in London and Christopher Beatty in New York.

Riley has most recently operated as a clearing consultant at the firm he founded, Lambda Clearing Designs. His extensive experience in clearing, particularly in Europe, includes stints as an executive at Chi-X Europe. He was also tasked with exploring initial clearing options for Chi-X Australia before its 2011 launch.

He has also worked as director, sales and marketing for Anglo-French clearing house LCH.Clearnet, and in a business development role for ABN AMRO Bank N.V.
