European trading venue SIX Swiss Exchange is to reduce its fees for trading in small- and mid-cap shares, as of 1 January 2011. The exchange says it has seen an increase in trading volumes on its equity segment by 40% over the past year.

The transaction fee for on-exchange trades via the firm's capacity trading interface will be reduced from CHF1.00 (€0.76 cents) to CHF0.50 – a reduction that will affect 75% of all shares listed on SIX Swiss Exchange.

Additionally, the balanced tariff for secondary listed shares will be reduced to match the tariff for blue-chip shares, falling from 0.54 basis points to 0.32 basis points and the cap from CHF54 to CHF32.

The exchange, part of SIX Group, recently launched a consultation over the use and ownership of reference data after a new fee structure it proposed for use of its reference data for multilateral trading was challenged by operators of dark pools.
