Thomson Financial, a provider of financial information and technology solutions, has launched Thomson ONE Japan, a suite of data and analytical applications tailored to the Japanese market. The suite is initially available in two workflow solutions: Thomson ONE Investment Management Japan and Thomson ONE Investment Banking Japan.

Thomson ONE Investment Management Japan has been launched to address the needs of fund management companies, as mutual fund assets under management exceed ¥70 trillion ($614 billion) for the first time.

Thomson says the application allows users to perform many different functions, from evaluating market trends and uncovering opportunities to understanding and communicating sources of portfolio performance.

The firm adds that the product’s interactive functionality gives users access to in-depth content across the available data, making it easy to move between key data sets and analytic or charting tools, while maintaining context on a particular company. Users can navigate from monitoring a ticker in real-time to viewing the company’s broker estimates or charting its historical time series versus the sector or market.

The package combines Thomson Datastream’s financial and economic encyclopaedic databases with Thomson Financial’s interactive portfolio analytics service; real-time market data; and news, estimates and research. It draws on sets of charting and Microsoft Office interface tools allowing access to a portfolio and identifying exceptions needing further research.

Thomson claims that Thomson ONE Investment Banking Japan is the only desktop solution configured to meet the needs of the Japanese investment banking community. The company says the product allows clients to combine analytical tools with market data, news and exclusive content from the industry’s top sources.

The Thomson ONE Japan suite offers a ‘one-click’ translation feature, which enables users to access information in both Japanese and English. Also, an advanced search function using the new Tokyo stock exchange sector classifications is now available.

“Our Thomson ONE application suite has already attained a leadership position because it is the only desktop solution which can be configured to meet daily workflow requirements of financial professionals around the world,” says Chris McAllum, managing director, Japan, Thomson Financial. “The release of Thomson ONE Japan will further improve our clients’ productivity by offering Japanese language content together with our global content, accessed more intuitively than ever with a Japanese language interface and navigation.”
