Asia-headquartered investment bank Nomura has hired Mike Ward to its London office to head up equity sales for the EMEA region.

Nomura said recent growth in the equity market has bolstered its importance to the firm’s global market revenues, providing opportunities for the bank to increase market share in both cash and derivatives products.

Ward has 20 years of financial services experience and joins Nomura from C8 Investments, where he was a principal responsible for sales and marketing.

Prior to joining C8, he spent eight years at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, rising to the role of head of EMEA equity sales. He has also spent time at Lehman Brothers and Deutsche Bank.

He will report to Nomura’s head of global markets sales for EMEA, Chris Fleming, who said: “Mike has deep relationships with institutional investors, hedge funds and banks and I am confident he will help us make further inroads in building our client franchise across EMEA.”

Nomura has also recently hired Todd Sandoz, formerly of Credit Suisse, as global head of execution services and equity trading, to help grow its share of the equity market.
