JO Hambro Capital Management outsources trading to Northern Trust

Members of JO Hambro’s trading desk have been invited to join Northern Trust providing continuity of coverage for the firm’s investment teams, The TRADE can reveal.

JO Hambro Capital Management (JOHCM) has selected Northern Trust as its sole provider of outsourced trading services.

As part of the decision, it has been confirmed that members of JOHCM’s trading team have been invited to join Northern Trust, providing continuity of coverage for the firm’s investment teams.

Back in October 2025, The TRADE revealed that JO Hambro’s head of trading Adam Simmons had departed, leaving the firm after seven years.

London-based Simmons had taken over the role from Louis de Kock in 2023, as revealed by The TRADE at the time.

As of June 2026, JO Hambro has £16.8 billion in assets under management.

According to the firm, the appointment of Northern Trust extends JOHCM’s trading reach across global markets and time zones, as well as widening the liquidity and broker networks available to its fund managers.

Specifically, ITS – part of Northern Trust Banking and Markets which provides institutional brokerage, foreign exchange, securities lending and transition management services – will support the trading of JOHCM’s portfolios.

“Northern Trust gives us a scalable global trading infrastructure, greater operational resilience and access to extensive liquidity and broker networks,” affirmed Clare Forster, chief operating officer at JOHCM.

“Its ITS model, with round-the-clock coverage of global markets, lets us scale with confidence while our investment teams stay focused on generating long-term returns through active, high-conviction portfolios. Our shared cultural commitment to client service made Northern Trust the natural strategic partner.”

The outsourced trading agreement builds on JOHCM’s existing relationship with Northern Trust which has been in place since 2008. Those asset services included: middle-office, transfer agency, fund accounting, custody, depositary and currency management.

Amy Thorne, head of integrated trading solutions, EMEA, Northern Trust, added: “We are delighted to be partnering with JOHCM by tailoring our ITS operating model to support their specialist global trading requirements across the investment lifecycle.

“This appointment reflects growing momentum among investment managers to view outsourced trading as a strategic component of evolving operating models, enabling them to focus on core investment decisions and business growth amid changing market conditions.”
