Ex-Thomson Reuters CEO named as Morgan Stanley’s lead director

Thomas Glocer, formerly CEO at Thomson Reuters, joined the board of directors at Morgan Stanley in 2013.

Morgan Stanley has named the former chief executive officer at Thomson Reuters as its lead director, taking over from Erskine Bowles.

Thomas Glocer’s appointment reflects the board of director’s governance policy of rotating its lead directors after a period of time.

He has served on the board at Morgan Stanley since 2013 and became chair of the operations and technology committee the following year.

Jami Miscik, currently CEO of consulting firm Kissinger Associates, will chair the operations and technology committee as of September this year when Glocer takes on his new role.

Glocer was the chief executive officer at Thomson Reuters from 2008 to 2011, having held the same position for Reuters Group from 2001 to 2008.

James Gorman, CEO at Morgan Stanley, described Glocer as a sophisticated director, with deep knowledge of financial services and specific expertise in technology, FinTech and banking.

Discussing Bowles’ time as lead director, Gorman added: “As lead director, he has been an invaluable asset in helping lead the transformation of Morgan Stanley.”
