Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BAML) has confirmed the departure of Mark Wheatley, the firm's head of electronic trading, Asia Pacific, and head of Japan equities.

Tokyo-based Wheatley, who oversaw all aspects of BAML's electronic trading business in the Asia Pacific region, joined Merrill Lynch in 2004 and rose to head of execution services, EMEA in 2007 before moving briefly to Hong Kong in 2008.

Wheatley's electronic trading responsibilities have been assumed by Gene Reilly, managing director and head of execution services, Asia Pacific, and Gabriel Butler, director of execution sales, Asia Pacific. Reilly oversees all equities execution for the region including facilitation, sales trading, portfolio trading and electronic trading. Reilly joined BAML in March last year from Goldman Sachs' Asian equity trading business. Butler, previously director of sales and trading, Asia Pacific at agency broker ITG, moved to BAML in Q4 2009.

Before joining Merrill Lynch, Wheatley spent 15 years at Morgan Stanley where he ran the broker's portfolio and delta one trading business in Europe.
