Baring Asset Management has appointed Adam Conn as head of dealing, replacing Brian Mitchell, who joined rival buy-side house Gartmore in January.

Conn joined Barings in March, having previously been global head of trading at hedge fund manager Atticus Capital. Atticus closed two of its hedge funds in August last year. Conn reports to Laura Ahto, head of operations and technology at Barings.

Conn has 25 years’ trading experience in the investment management industry and has worked in both London and Hong Kong.

Mitchell moved to become Gartmore’s head of dealing after an 11-year stint at Barings. He is responsible for overseeing the firm’s trading activities in London, Tokyo and Boston, including equities, derivatives, fixed income and foreign exchange.
