BATS Europe, the pan-European multilateral trading facility operated by US execution venue BATS Trading, is to launch in early November this year, Randy Williams, BATS Trading’s vice-president of sales and communications, told theTRADEnews.com. He added, however, that the European platform will not be launching on 1 November – a Saturday – as some news reports have suggested.

The platform, said Williams, will begin trading the constituent stocks of the UK’s FTSE 100 index from launch and will add further equities in due course. However, no timetable for expansion has yet been agreed.

In the coming months, BATS Europe will announce new hires to its management team and finalise the location of its London office. BATS appointed Mark Hemsley as CEO and Paul O’Donnell as chief operating officer of the European platform in April.
