Bear Stearns has appointed James Shekerdemian to the newly created role of head of sales for prime brokerage, Europe. Mr. Shekerdemian will be responsible for the build-out of the company’s equity sales franchise in Europe to prime brokerage clients.

Vincent Van Pelt, co-head of equities in Europe, comments, "James Shekerdemian's appointment completes a trio of recent strategic hires we have made in order to build on our existing European prime brokerage business and create a platform for future growth. Prime brokerage is one of the focal areas for Bear Stearns' expansion strategy so we are investing in talented individuals to ensure we build the best franchise we can."

Mr. Shekerdemian joins from Lehman Brothers where he was the head of the quantitative hedge fund sales group. In his new role at Bear Stearns, he will report to Paul Brannan, head of prime brokerage, Europe and to Vicki Aston-Duff and Leonardo Giangreco, co-heads of equity sales, Europe. His appointment follows that of Mr. Brannan who joined Bear Stearns at the start of May and that of Andrew Jamieson who will join Bear Stearns as head of equity finance, Europe in June.

Mr. Shekerdemian has over sixteen years experience in institutional sales and capital markets prime services, including prime brokerage origination and product development in all areas of financing, stock loan and execution. Before Lehman Brothers he spent thirteen years at GNI, creating and running an institutional desk for contracts for difference (CFD) sales via direct market access (DMA) to hedge funds, having previously run an institutional sales team. He started out at GNI in Japanese futures and options sales. Mr. Shekerdemian has an MBA from the American Graduate School of International Management, Thunderbird.
