BlackRock director steps into Balyasny Asset Management equity trader role

New hire joins after an 11-year tenure at the asset management giant, where he worked across equities and derivatives trading in several senior positions.  

Mike DiSpirito has joined Balyasny Asset Management as an equity trader, after more than 11 years at BlackRock. 

New York-based DiSpirito joins the firm after most recently serving as a director in equity and derivatives trading at BlackRock, where he headed up the European index, systematic and transitions trading pod. 

He initially joined the asset management giant as a vice president in portfolio finance in 2015, before later becoming a vice president in equity and derivatives trading, based out of London. 

Prior to this, he worked at Citi for almost two years as an assistant vice president, markets treasury. 

Previously in his career, DiSpirito also gained early asset management experience as PwC.  

Balyasny Asset Management declined to comment when contacted by The TRADE.

Back in December 2025, Paul Battams was named global head of equity trading, after 17 years at the investment management giant. 

During his time at BlackRock, Battams has served in various senior trading roles, most recently as head of international equity trading.
