Bloomberg expands cross-firm communication on IB chatbot

The new offering is set to enhance counterparty communications and deliver quick insights for Bloomberg Anywhere users

Bloomberg has expanded its Instant Bloomberg (IB) chatbot solution with an add-on service, which will allow Bloomberg Anywhere users to interact with multiple firms by bringing in-house proprietary bots to IB chat rooms.

The offering, called IB Connect: Cross-Firm Chatbots, will allow clients to build bots to automatically gather and surface insights and information from internal applications, to then be shared with other firms via IB communications.

The service is aimed at allowing financial professionals to save time by interacting with their counterparties and colleagues from the front-, middle- and back-office.

Roger Birch, head of product: communication and collaboration systems for IB at Bloomberg, said: “Financial market professionals spend too much of their valuable time pivoting between applications and juggling hundreds of chat requests.

“By welcoming Cross-Firm Chatbots, we’re helping our clients build information hyperloops so they can focus on what truly matters in their chats with counterparties – delivering insights, building client relationships, and sharing the next big trade idea.”

The offering incorporates two-way API with Bloomberg’s NLP technology to provide the data and context to the bots’ IB chats to inform and support client discussion.

Through the expansion, clients will be able to share a variety of insights, such as status updates from order management systems, market reports from research content management platforms, and trade ideas from client relationship management tools.

The bots form part of Bloomberg’s IB Connect solutions suite and build on IB Connect: Intra-Firm Chatbots, the offering first introduced by Bloomberg in 2023, to enhance buy- and sell-side networking and collaboration across the IB community.

The IB offering supports connections and communication for Bloomberg Terminal users, and the new chatbot service aligns with other expansions related to research in recent months. In May 2025, Bloomberg announced a collaboration with BNP Paribas Exane to make the firm’s equity research models available on the Terminal.
