Pan-European multilateral trading facility (MTF) Chi-X Europe is to follow rival trading venues BATS Europe and Nasdaq OMX Europe by introducing trading in Irish shares.

From 22 January, Chi-X Europe will offer all constituents of the Irish ISEQ 20 index. Clearing will be provided by European Multilateral Clearing Facility (EMCF), the central counterparty Chi-X Europe uses to clear trades in the other markets it operates in.

Nasdaq OMX Europe and BATS Europe also plan to launch Irish trading capabilities on 22 January. Nasdaq OMX Europe will clear its Irish trades through EMCF, while BATS Europe will use LCH.Clearnet Limited.

Turquoise and NYSE Arca Europe are currently the only displayed MTFs offering trading in Irish securities. According to figures from data vendor Thomson Reuters, €1.69 billion worth of Irish stocks was traded in December 2009.
