EuroCTP secures ESMA authorisation to operate EU shares and ETFs consolidated tape

The tape is now set to go live on 14 September 2026; authorisation process included assessment of EuroCTP’s data quality and performances, operational resilience, commercial model and governance.

EuroCTP has received authorisation from the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) to serve as the EU consolidated tape provider (CTP) for shares and ETFs.

The approval comes seven months after the firm was selected as the CTP in December 2025, and marks the completion of the final regulatory step required ahead of launch.

EuroCTP has also confirmed that it plans for the tape to go live on 14 September 2026.

“The consolidated tape has been a long-standing ambition for European capital markets, and with ESMA’s authorisation, we are at the threshold of making that a reality,” said Eglantine Desautel, chief executive of EuroCTP.

“We are grateful for the collaborative and efficient engagement with ESMA throughout the process, which allowed us to reach this milestone just seven months after selection. Our full focus now is on ensuring a smooth go-live, and we look forward to operating the European consolidated tape for shares and ETFs and to the role it will play in European markets.”

EuroCTP’s authorisation progress covered the firm’s operating model, assessing data quality and performances, operational resilience, commercial model and governance.

Following launch, the firm will assume responsibility for operating the consolidated tape for a five year period, aligning with the Mifir framework and under the umbrella of ESMA’s supervision.

“This authorisation marks a key step in the implementation of the consolidated tape framework, strengthening the transparency and efficiency of EU equity capital markets,” added Natasha Cazenave, ESMA’s executive director.

“By bringing pre-trade and post-trade data from multiple data contributors into a single stream, the CTP for shares and ETFs will give market participants a comprehensive view of trading activity. It will thus support better price discovery and facilitate more informed investment decisions for EU and international investors, contributing to the objectives of the Savings and Investments Union.”

Currently, connectivity for the tape has already been established across 130 data sources from regulated markets, MTFs and APAs.

Moreover, EuroCTP also announced its proposed access framework and fee structure for the tape in February 2026, which allows non-professional clients, such as retail investors and academics to access EuroCTP data free of charge through the firm’s website.

Professional clients can access EuroCTP real-time market data either through a display use fee of €100 per natural user per month, or a non-display enterprise license of €4,000 per client group per month.
