Hong Kong-based hedge fund start-up Oracle Capital has selected technology provider Options IT to provide its technology infrastructure, citing its need to build in capacity for future growth.

Operated by two former Lehman Brothers traders since its foundation in 2009, Oracle focuses on fixed income products, particularly in the areas of credit, fixed income derivatives and securitisation. Following the agreement with Options IT, Oracle will use the vendor's PIPE Core business technology infrastructure service to support its desktop and mobile communication needs.

“We chose the PIPE Core service because it offers a robust solution that can scale in lock-step with our business,” said Fredric Teng, chief operating officer at Oracle Capital. “By placing the ongoing role of infrastructure management in the hands of a trusted provider like Options IT, we're able to focus our efforts on optimising creative trading strategies to take full advantage of current market opportunities for our maiden fund.”

Teng added that the ability to provide international connectivity, remote offices with 24/7 support, offsite equipment for easy mobility as the firm grows, and offsite equipment and data storage were distinguishing factors in the decision to select Options IT.

“Technology is key to the success of any investment firm,” he said. “We feel that Option IT's infrastructure levels the playing field for emerging start-ups like us. We travel constantly and do not have a lot of permanent staff stationed to handle IT related issues. High quality remote access of our technology also allows for key employees to function properly while being on the road.”
